Canadian Jesuits magazine invites us to go to the borders

December 13, 2018 — The most recent issue of the magazine Canadian Jesuits invites us to go to the frontiers. Mentioned both in the title and in the biblical meditation by Fr. Bernard Carrière, SJ, this theme is explored in various ways in this edition of the magazine. A large part of it is dedicated to Jesuits from here and from abroad whose apostolate is on the frontiers and the margins. The universal dimensions of the Society of Jesus are clearly highlighted, while pride of place is given to the life of the new Jesuit Province of Canada and its various works.

A lively review of Fr. General’s visit to Canada is offered by Adam Pittman, SJ, who also mentions the hopes and challenges arising from such a visit and from the calls for reconciliation and collaboration, of which Fr. Arturo Sosa spoke frequently during his stay in Canada: “Even though our world is covered by fog, I cannot but sense in these words a light that breaks through, revealing infinite possibilities – but only, only if we act, hand in hand, with our friends in the Lord,” he said.

One can also read an article by Marco Veilleux on the Ferme Berthe-Rousseau, and another by Thomas Worcester, SJ on Regis College, the Jesuit Faculty of Theology in Canada. There is also a portrait of our companion Sylvester Tan, as well as of the novices who have joined the Society, the scholastics who celebrated their vows, and the deacons and priests who were ordained this past year, both in Haiti and in Canada. And we bid a final farewell to those companions who have left us during these past months.

The life of the universal Society is not ignored. In particular one can read an interview by Pierre Belanger, SJ of our companion Michael Czerny, SJ, Under-secretary of the Section for Migrants and Refugees of the Dicastry for Integral Human Development. And there is news from the Jesuit community in Haiti.
