December 7, 2018 — Our companion, Father Mario Serrano, SJ, from the Dominican Republic, coordinator of the social apostolate of the Jesuit Province of the Antilles, has been in Canada for a few months primarily to learn French, while collaborating with the team of the Centre justice et foi and of the Province. Brother Bertrand Girard died at the infirmary in Richelieu on October 26, 2018, at the age of 97, after 76 years of religious life. He lived and served in Montreal for most of his religious life and was sent later on, to the indigenous people of the St. Regis Mission.
Beginning in 1960 he taught for ten years in the Jesuit Faculties of Montreal and served as guest professor for several Canadian universities. In 1970, he became a professor at Laval University, a position which he held for 25 years.

The Martyrs’ Shrine is the National Shrine to the Canadian Martyrs. The Shrine honours the eight Jesuit Saints who lived, worked, and died here over 350 years ago.
